About Lisa
Lisa has been hammering away on dulcimer since 1980, cutting her teeth in the fast-paced Irish and Welsh pub sessions. She is a qualified teacher and runs workshops (often alongside Sue Harris in the English Dulcimer Duo, and with Nonsuch, who kindly provide the instruments) for any age or ability. She also teaches 1:1. She is keen to develop on line teaching so please get in touch if you’d like to give this a try.
She has begun to approach a number of national Folk Festivals to set up HD workshops with the aim of encouraging more players of this fabulous instrument. (Keep an eye on the ‘What’s on’ section for a festival near you…)
With many years of experience in performing around the UK and on the Continent under her belt, she was the co-founder of numerous concert and ceilidh bands such as the Johnny Spangles Allstars (including Dave Young, Ed Rennie), Frankie Goes to a Ceilidh (inc Paul James, Dave Young), Malthouse Passage (inc Dave Young, Andy McLauchlin), Wompsters, Blarney Stone, the English Dulcimer Duo (with Sue Harris)…
She is currently teaching hammered dulcimer to a wide range of players and performers. Lisa has performed at numerous UK and European festivals, has been artistic director of a festival for 10 years, worked for the internationally acclaimed fRoots magazine and has been commissioned to create and perform music for a Channel 4 documentary. She has also become one of the UK’s leading hammered dulcimer players.
Lisa has a wealth of experience, and welcomes the chance to pass on her skills to her students, tailoring her teaching to their personal requirements.
