After a full career in elementary education, Laurie Alsobrook turned her attention to sharing the joy of playing the dulcimer at festivals, workshops, and retreats from Vermont to Florida.  What a perfect blending of her two passions – working with learners and playing the dulcimer! In the world of online instruction, Laurie taught at the Dutchland Virtual Dulcimer Gathering in July, has led workshops with dulcimer clubs in other parts of the country, and also has private students via zoom.  She also hosts a Friday afternoon online jam and participates as a song leader in another virtual jam session every Saturday.

A staple at Dulcimer U in recent years, Laurie led the advancing beginner morning skills class in 2019 and is noted for her quirky evening jam sessions.  With co-director David Beede, Laurie organized, hosted and led workshops for “Dulcimers Do Digital” at the 2020 Stephen Foster Dulcimer Retreat. Recently, Laurie was tapped to be included in the QuaranTune Dulcimer Festival 3.0 in February 2020.

Laurie is known as an engaging teacher, receiving such comments from her students: “a lovely upbeat person,”  “great teacher,” and “contagious enthusiasm!”

Laurie is teaching at Spring Fling Online 2021.
