Silkie Chromatic

Location: Ely, Cambridgeshire

Silkie Chromatic Dulcimer, handmade by the late dulcimer maker Roger Frood of Dove Dulcimers in Somerset, England in 1996 and in excellent playing condition.

The dulcimer is made with a hardwood frame of beech and ash with a birch laminate top and maple wood bridges.

This variation of the 12/12 Silkie, features additional bridges which provide three extra courses on the treble and six on the bass. This gives it a 3 octave chromatic range that makes it perfect for all types of music, from folk, through jazz, classical or rock. The world is your oyster!

It’s an excellent instrument that will give the beginner room to grow and allow the more experienced player to experiment and put through its paces!

When I was playing regularly in a group, I loved using the additional range to differentiate between characters when accompanying a song. I know other players who have enjoyed using this dulcimer to experiment with different tunes and soundscapes.

The dulcimer is sold with its original foldaway stand and soft case (both purchased from Roger Frood at the same time as the dulcimer), as well as 4 pairs of hammers, a tuning wrench (and diagram) and soft case for accessories.

Buyer will need to collect from Ely, Cambridgeshire.
