The first-ever Mountain/Appalachian Dulcimer workshop held in Italy, taught by an esteemed American teacher with decades of experience, based in Pennsylvania and in Europe for the first time.

This two-day workshop will be taught in the beautiful olive mill of Roccanegra, Chiusavecchia (province of Imperia) and will culminate in a final concert involving all participants on Saturday night, 9th March. On Friday 8th March there will also be the possibility of booking a dinner and concert of Brett’s in Ristorante Ramoino, also in Chiusavecchia (price: 35 euros all-inclusive to be paid directly to the restaurant on the night).

Lessons will be suitable for both BEGINNERS who have never played a mountain dulcimer as well as INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED players who are already familiar with the instrument and would like to hone their skills in this repertoire.

Course description:

Lessons will focus on improving techniques, learning songs, styles and ornamentation used in traditional North American music.

Hours:

• Friday 8th March: 10am, student registration in the Roccanegra olive mill, Chiusavecchia, where all lessons and the final concert will take place. Lessons: 11am – 1pm and 3pm – 5pm.
• Saturday 9th March, lessons 11am – 1pm and 3pm – 5pm, followed by the final concert at 9 pm.

Accommodation and meals:

Roccanegra olive mill is in the village of Chiusavecchia, Imperia, which boasts both restaurants and cafes. A discounted rate at local venues will be negotiated depending on numbers. Participants who require accommodation will receive a list of nearby B&Bs/farmstays and help with booking them if necessary.

Instruments:

Participants who require an instrument should let the organisers know as soon as possible. Dulcimer hire will be charged separately and will depend on the number of instruments requested: participants requiring a dulcimer will be notified in good time of the final cost.

• Mountain dulcimer full two-day workshop plus concert: $US95
• Mountain dulcimer one-day workshop: $US45
• Ukulele / Banjo lessons – €25 per 1 hour to be paid on the day of your lesson.
