About Grahame

Grahame has been playing mountain dulcimer since the late 1970s and has a great deal of teaching and playing experience.

He also plays and teaches guitar, mandolin and ukulele.

While never a fully professional musician Grahame has played in many bands and in many styles, though his true love is always folk-based acoustic music.

Grahame is involved in running two monthly clubs locally and attends several more. He has written extensively for many music magazines in the UK and US and was the author of ‘Empty Pocket Blues- the life and music of Clive Palmer’ published in 2008. Grahame was also the editor of Nonsuch News for three years.

Now retired, Grahame lives in a small village near Dover. In the last few years he has also organised four ‘Night Of The Living Dulcimers’ concerts which combine Hammered Dulcimer and Mountain Dulcimer players and has been very successful in spreading the word.

Before Grahame moved to Dover he taught several pupils from Goldsmiths College in London who had chosen to learn MD as part of a Post-Graduate course. They were all complete beginners but did already play other instruments so had some grasp of music theory.

Grahame particularly enjoys playing traditional instrumental music and working out song accompaniments.
